I accidently became a Game Developer | Entry 2
Picture this I’m sitting in the car — waiting to see my sister’s new apartment. As I am doing some research into some new programming languages — I find out Lua is used in game development, specifically Roblox and modding. That lead me down a rabbit-hole I wasn’t sure I was ready to do, that is until I found Luanti — a voxel engine written in C++ that uses Lua for mechanics. So I dived right in and installed Mineclonia — joined a server and then… boom… I sent my first message in the chat.
Hey! I just found Luanti, this is my first time!
You want to know what they said?
“Oh, another troll”
So I begin with
I'm not a troll I'm a app developer searching for a new niche
They soon realized I was being completely serious. I was stuck in server spawn for a while before I eventually found my way out into the open-source overworld(a complete recreation of Minecraft with a ton of tweaks I was not ready for) to complete my first task… get wood. I soon realized it was almost like 2b2t, the longest anarchy server in Minecraft history. There was no wood around — I got lucky though and came across a half-built structure made entirely from wood. I created my tools, grabbed some open-source cobblestone, and starting advancing pretty quickly.
The users on the server were indeed very nice, they answered questions I had about Lua and Luanti — said my farewells then hopped off to write this.I have now since installed Luanti on my Pixel 7 and ready to give it a go. I have the Lua documentation fired up, ready to learn. I will create a video-game. Not just any video-game. A video-game created from another open-source engine like I create my SaaS Applications, why? Well, that’s easy to answer… because I can. I want to push the limits of open-source applications the best way I can. Guess what… I’ll spin a server up just so you can play the game with me when it’s ready to be released. I just need to brainstorm some ideas.
